Who we are and how we got here
We’re a small, veteran-owned and family-run farm that began with nothing more than a big dream and a courageous leap of faith. In 2021, we took the plunge and purchased 100 acres of raw, untouched land in East Bernstadt, KY, with the intention of building our forever homestead from the ground up using our own hands and hard work. Our goal was to reconnect with a simpler, yet far more fulfilling way of life. This journey began with just a couple of chickens, followed by a few feeder pigs that we raised for our own freezer. Once we experienced the remarkable difference in flavor and quality of our pasture-raised meat and eggs compared to store-bought options, we felt compelled to share this discovery with our family and friends. This initial excitement blossomed into a commitment to grow quality meat for those close to us. During this journey, we noticed many conversations and posts on local social media platforms where people expressed a strong desire for clean meats but often lacked the knowledge or resources to pursue it themselves. This led to our “lightbulb” moment, as we recognized an incredible opportunity to provide our local communities with the same clean, wholesome meat that we proudly feed our own family. Our vision is clear: to offer everything we raise and grow for our family, to our cherished local communities.
What we do
Short answer is Regenerative Farming. But what does that really mean? It means thoughtfully rotating our animals through our lush pastures and serene wooded areas, with frequencies varying from each day for our curious chickens to every 14-21 days for our contented pigs. This intentional approach not only allows our animals to scratch and turn the soil while naturally depositing essential nutrients, but it also enables us to raise all of our beloved animals without the need for any shots, medications, or vaccinations. This practice not only contributes to building up the soil with amazing organic material, but it allows our animals to truly be animals, gaining a wealth of natural vitamins and minerals from their environment. As our animals nourish the land, the land, in turn, provides more nutrient-dense forage, which allows us to sustainably raise more animals on the same amount of land. It’s a beautiful cycle of give and take that highlights the interconnectedness of our farm. Yes, this commitment requires a lot more effort than what is typical in large commercial farming operations, but it is absolutely worth it to ensure we have happy, healthy animals that provide a superior quality and more nutrient-dense meat for our community.
